Abstract

Fine motor skills in Down syndrome refer to the ability to coordinate and control the small muscles of the hands and fingers, essential for daily activities such as manipulating small objects, writing and buttoning, being crucial for independence and autonomy. The Curricular Integration (TIC) work entitled: "The strengthening of fine motor skills in students with Down syndrome in the eighth year of EGB of the Agustín Cueva Tamariz Specialized Education Unit", proposes a teaching guide to strengthen this skill. The concept of fine motor skills was theoretically addressed from the perspective of Cabrera and Dupeyrón (2019) and Cándales-Castillo (2012), who emphasize the importance of coordinated and precise movements. The project used a qualitative approach and multiple case study methodology, applying research techniques such as participant observation, interviews and documentary analysis. Data triangulation allowed to identify the difficulties and potentialities in the learning of students with Down syndrome. The results showed the need to strengthen fine motor skills due to problems with hand-eye coordination, precise movement of the hands and fingers, and the grip of the digital pincer. A teaching guide was developed for strengthening fine motor skills, allowing teachers to organize and plan their school activities, guiding the teaching and learning process. Ultimately, the study offers practical guidance for professionals and educators who work with students with Down syndrome, providing effective activities to support their comprehensive development.
